Light, informal and sympathetic

The name Gaia originates from Greek mythology, where Gaia personifies “Mother Earth”, symbolizing life, growth and renewal. Inspired by this, Andreas Engesvik has created a sofa that balances comfort, aesthetics and sustainability in a new way.

The Gaia sofa is light, informal and sympathetic, yet solid, repairable and built to last. With removable covers, modular construction and a lightweight design, it is easy to maintain, move, and eventually recycle.

Each sofa is handcrafted with materials from local suppliers, and launched in an exclusive textile designed by Andreas Engesvik and woven by Innvik especially for LK Hjelle. This reinforces the sofa’s Norwegian identity. A piece of furniture that is as much about design and craftsmanship as it is about responsibility and care for the environment.

– With Gaia, we wanted to create a sofa that is as easy to live with as it is to look at. It balances comfort, design and sustainability in a natural way. Together with Innvik, we developed a textile that makes the whole expression both beautiful and responsible, Andreas Engesvik, designer of Gaia.
