Our story - LK Hjelle

Our story. Our legacy.

Our proud story begins in the 1940s. Life along the Norwegian coast was tough. Nestled between deep fjords and majestic mountains, the farmers of the small village of Sykkylven began building furniture in barns and cellars to secure their livelihoods. They were everyday heroes.

My grandfather, Lars Karl Hjelle, was one of these pioneers. Driven by a wish to create more jobs for his community, he founded LK Hjelle in 1945.

Quality and comfort were fundamental to Lars Karl – and to every furniture maker of that first generation in Sykkylven. They remain at the heart of everything we do. True craftsmanship runs in our blood.

Our aim is to create beautiful, timeless Scandinavian furniture. Being a Norwegian family business producing for an international market takes courage. Through close collaboration with both emerging and established Norwegian and international designers, we have become known for innovative, enduring design. We constantly challenge ourselves – improving, refining and expanding our collection.

We are proud that every piece is still made at our factory in Sykkylven. We believe this is the only way to create furniture that truly lasts – in form, quality and comfort.

Every day, we are driven by the passion and pride of continuing our legacy as a third-generation company. Our story runs deep – but this is just the beginning.
