The Norwegian Embassy in Stockholm

At Gärdet, on the edge of Djurgården, stands one of Nordic architecture’s true masterpieces — the Norwegian Embassy in Stockholm. Designed by architect Knut Knutsen and completed in 1952, the building brings together organic architecture, Japanese spatial thinking, and Norwegian vernacular building tradition in a way that still feels remarkably modern today.

The complex on Skarpögatan is composed of low, interconnected volumes that follow the terrain. Robust brick façades meet sections of timber cladding, a clear nod to traditional Norwegian wooden architecture, while influences from Frank Lloyd Wright and Japanese aesthetics give the building its flowing transitions between spaces.
